A large dining table to serve Mediterranean cuisine. The handglazed turquois tiles in the centre and around the rim of the mosaic are combined with unglazed terracotta tiles. The unglazed tiles are coated with a mixture of natural oil and wax to protect the surface against liquids and dirt.

Concentric circles made of rectangular, triangular and square terracotta tiles form an artful mosaic whose borders are framed by a turquois band of craquelé glazed square tiles. The edges of this 25 kg (55 lbs) mosaic and 97 centimeter (38 inches) tabletop are protected by a three milimeter ring of solid wrought and scorched iron.

This mosaic design was taken from a typical medieval floor mosaic that was common in churches and cloisters at that period of time. In the centre of this tabletop you find again the pentacle we often use in our tabletops. In popular belief it was considered as a symbol of health and the circle of life. It was also widely used as a ban and sign of defense against demons and evil spirits.

In medieval times the pentacle with its golden ratio and its numerical proportion for beauty became the basic principle of design for early churches and monasteries.
